Glowing Lights and UFO’s Descend Upon Skies in Waitsfield

UFO

On June 29, 1977, there were reports of UFO activity in Vermont, notably in the town of Waitsfield. Eyewitnesses described seeing unusual lights in the sky that night. The lights were described as stationary at first, then moving at exceptional speeds, much faster than any known aircraft. These sightings add to the long history of UFO reports in Vermont, a state known for its clear night skies which often lend themselves to such mysterious observations.

UFO's in the sky over Waitsfield, Vermont?

The alleged activity was witnessed from a large open field in the small town. Two fuzzy glowing orange lights, aligned horizontally, about 45 degrees from the horizon, grew gradually larger and brighter, and merged into a single enormous trapezoid shape, at least 15-20 times the size of a full moon.  It remained a fuzzy-edged bright orange light and had no sound. The light gradually shrank and disappeared. About 10-15 minutes later, there was just a faint glow in the sky. One of the witnesses said he never seen or heard of anything like it.

1977 Was a Notable Year for UFO Sightings

Additionally, 1977 was a notable year for UFO sightings across the United States, with many reports compiled by the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). Vermont's sightings on that specific date contribute to the broader picture of heightened UFO activity during that time period.

Interestingly enough, 1977 was the year when the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind premiered, becoming a box office success. Along with the blockbuster debut of Star Wars, the media hype most likely had an influence upon the increase of UFO sightings.

In 1977, President Carter asked NASA to look into the possibility of resuming UFO investigations. After studying the available facts, NASA decided that further investigation would not yield any new scientific information.

The Truth is Out There?

For more detailed accounts and additional context on these sightings, resources such as the National UFO Reporting Center and NICAP provide comprehensive chronologies and analysis of the events surrounding these unexplained phenomena.
