A Vermont Vacation Rediscovery
| With gas prices hitting all time records and escalating even higher, many Vermonters are having to make tough vacation choices. Fortunately for those of us who live in (or near) the beautiful Green Mountains, a vacation in Vermont is right under our noses! Since the beginning of June 2008, I've noticed what seems to be a lot more New York license plates rolling up Route 7, north towards Burlington. Most likely our neighbors from upstate NY have decided a trip to Vermont is a bit less costly than driving to the Big Apple. So what do the local's do to vacation in Vermont? | |
Shelburne Museum is always a perennial favorite. People come from all over the world yet it's surprising how many people (some who live in Shelburne, VT) haven't visited the museum in years, or at all. Saturday is a busy day with a terrific farmer's market at the Shelburne town green. Just a couple miles up the road is Shelburne Farms or the Vermont Teddy Bear factory. You can literally make an overnight vacation to Shelburne alone. Church Street in Burlington is another popular vacation spot. Many people from around the state make a day of shopping a regular event by visiting both Church St and the University Mall in S.Burlington, VT. The Lake Champlain waterfront offers lake cruises, bike paths and events such as the Chew Chew Festival, which takes place each year. |

Hop on to I89 and visit Waterbury's Cold Hollow Cider Mill and Ben & Jerry's along the way to Stowe. During the summer months, there is a wonderful recreation path to enjoy in Stowe along with the Alpine Slide, gondola rides, a drive up Smuggler's Notch or the Mount Mansfield toll road. Plenty of places for hiking in Stowe too. Another great Vermont vacation where you can easily spend a couple days.
