A Drive to Middlebury, VT
| Route 7 is famous for being one of the most scenic routes in Vermont. A drive south from the Burlington area, Route 7 is famous for it's views of Lake Champlain as you're driving through Charlotte. It's still comforting to see the wide open fields and farms that are nestled within the valleys. There are many small towns and things to see along the way to Middlebury such as the Rokeby Museum, Round Barn Merinos and it's resident camel (yes, camel) in Ferrisburgh, VT. It's nice to see the old Grange Hall being rebuilt after it was destroyed by arson several years ago. Continue on a bit further past the turn to Vergennes towards New Haven, VT. | Middlebury is a nice, typical Vermont town with a small, downtown shopping area by the Otter Creek falls. It's a nice place to go for a short walk and browse the local stores. Very few (if any) chain stores in downtown Middlebury, which is really a pleasant change. Middlebury is the home of the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History. Yeah, this the place where John Deere got his start as well before moving to Illinois to establish his farm equipment empire. Champlain Valley Apiaries is also located in Middlebury, VT. It was established by Charles Mraz and has been producing high quality Vermont honey since 1931. Charles' grandson, "Chas", is the third generation proprietor of Champlain Valley Apiaries and is a helluva nice guy to boot.
