The Fourth Annual Kingdom Triathlon

will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Derby Beach House on Lake Salem in Derby, Vermont –deep in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom. As we did in 2010, we are running two triathlons on the same day. The Aquaman “Even Up” Triathlon is a half iron level tri with a twist. It includes a traditional 13.1 mile run. But we have shortened the bike to 30 miles and increased the swim to 3.5 miles. Say, What? Yep. The course is a response to what we call the “Swimmers Lament,” that traditional triathlons are stacked against them. Strong swimmers, runners, and bikers should spend just about 1.5 hours on each leg. The course was “field tested” in 2010 by members of the Boston Triathlon Team and other strong athletes from Quebec, Massachusetts, Vermont and Pennsylvania. They loved it. Some said they’d been waiting for an event like this most of their adult lives. And the swim in Lake Seymour involved some of the cleanest, clearest water some had ever competed in. We are pleased to have three of them join us on our organizing committee for this coming year. And are now ready to open this event up to as many as 100 participants in 2011.
