History
Shelburne Charlotte Hinesburg Interfaith Projects (SCHIP) is a cooperative endeavor of ten faith communities: Charlotte Congregational, Shelburne United Methodist, Trinity Episcopal, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Jude’s, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Hinesburg United, Ascension Lutheran, All Souls Interfaith Gathering, and the Vermont Zen Center.
SCHIP was founded in 2003 with the goal of raising funds to improve the quality of life for residents of the towns of Shelburne, Charlotte and Hinesburg. In 2004, SCHIP opened SCHIP’s Treasure Resale Shop to sell good, used, donated clothing and household items to raise money to make grants for projects that benefit the people of the communities.
To date grants in a total of approximately $100,000 have been made to nonprofit organizations in the three towns, helping people in need and supporting worthy projects that benefit the communities.
