Jay State Forest - Jay, Vermont

Jay State Forest is located in northern Vermont offering downhill and cross-country skiing opportunities. Over 1,300 acres are available to winter sport enthusiasts. The private ski resort offers 50 trails which include 20% novice, 55% intermediate and 25% expert. Total vertical drop is 2,153 feet.
Long Trail hikers find their trail bisecting the Forest. Jay Peak Trail offers 3.5 miles of moderately difficult terrain ascending an elevation of 1,680 feet to the 3,861 Jay Peak. Beautiful views of Green Mountain National Forest, Owls Head (Quebec), and even New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest can be seen.

Things to do - Jay State Forest is leased to a private ski resort offering downhill skiing, snowboarding, instruction and rental. Fifty trails include 20% beginner, 55% intermediate and 25% expert. Total vertical drop is 2,153 feet. Several miles of the Long Trail bisect the Forest. Jay Peak Trail, which offers wonderful views of two national forests, overlaps the Long Trail for a segment.

Downhill skiing, snowboarding, equipment rental and ski instruction are offered at Jay State Forest. Hiking the Long Trail and the Jay Peak Trail are also enjoyed.

Weather - Winter daytime temperatures in the lower half of the Lakes / Kingdom region averages 14 to 16 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 to -9 Celsius). The upper half of this region experiences winter temperatures ranging below 14 degrees Fahrenheit (below -10 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures are cooler along the western area of Lake Champlain averaging 66 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (19 to 21 Celsius). The central area of this region expects temperatures from 66 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (19 to 20 Celsius) with the eastern area of this region experiencing the coolest summer time temperatures of less than 66 degrees Fahrenheit (below 19 Celsius). The yearly precipitation for Lakes and Kingdom Travel Region vary from less than 36 inches (91 centimeters) along the western line to more than 44 inches (112 centimeters) along the eastern border of New Hampshire and Canada.
